1. Why This Program Exists
Young people in Murende and Western Kenya grow up with talent, energy, and a strong desire to build a better life. But without practical skills and real work experience, it is difficult for them to find dignified jobs or start their own business. This program creates a concrete pathway: training in Murende, deep practical experience in the Netherlands, and then a committed return to Kenya.
2. Program Overview
The Murende–Netherlands Work Experience Program is a 1.5-year vocational track combining:
- Foundational training at Murende College in Western Kenya
- 18 months of practical learning and work experience in the Netherlands
- A structured return to Kenya with support for local employment or entrepreneurship
3. Target Group
The program is designed for:
- Young people aged approximately 18–25
- Graduates of secondary education (KCSE)
- Motivated, responsible, and community-minded
- Willing to return to Kenya after completing the program
4. Program Phases
Phase 1 – Selection & Preparation in Murende (3–6 months)
- Recruitment of candidates at Murende College
- Assessment of English, motivation, and basic skills
- Foundational training in:
- Healthcare support
- Plumbing
- Basic electrical installation
- Orientation on Dutch work culture and safety
- Preparation of passports and required documents
Phase 2 – Practical Learning in the Netherlands (18 months)
In the Netherlands, participants follow a structured work-learning program in cooperation with:
- A Dutch vocational school (ROC) for theory and certification
- One or more Dutch companies for supervised workplace learning
Participants learn:
- Discipline and work ethics
- Craftsmanship and modern techniques
- Teamwork, planning, and responsibility
Phase 3 – Return & Local Impact in Kenya
- Official evaluation and certification in the Netherlands
- Organised return to Kenya
- Support in finding a job or starting a small business
- Possibility to train other young people at Murende College
5. Partnership Between Kenya and the Netherlands
This program is built on collaboration. Murende College works together with Dutch schools and companies that are ready to invest in people, not just in projects.

- Dutch vocational schools: theory, exams, and formal recognition
- Dutch companies: practical training, coaching, and daily work experience
